Tony Travers
Chief Executive Officer
Tony brings proven leadership, people and business skills to Manchester Imaging based on his board background in the global pharmaceutical and biotech sector. His expertise ranges from commercial, finance and R&D, through to a thorough grasp of bioscience and medical technology.
For a large part of his career Tony worked for big pharmaceutical companies. He was Global Commercial Director at Astra Zeneca, National Brand Director at Astra Zeneca US, a Director of TT Healthcare and a Director of PharmaKure.
At Manchester Imaging he has led a development programme that has seen the company expand globally via a three-pronged strategy.
- Sales to dental practices via distribution agreements with international dental equipment manufacturers
- Contracts to develop Artificial Intelligence products for other imaging companies
- Sales direct to university dental schools around the world
Under Tony’s direction Manchester Imaging is on course to become a world-leading AI dental and medical software company.
Dr Tom Williams PhD
Chief Technical Officer
Tom has a passion for developing Artificial Intelligence solutions for healthcare and putting them in the hands of medical professionals to benefit patients.
He has worked in AI from its early days in the 1990s which gives him depth of knowledge in a broad range of machine learning techniques in a career spanning both academic and commercial sectors.
Tom has a proven track record in successful deployment of cutting-edge AI solutions in pharma, commercial and clinical settings and for a range of disease targets including dental, non-melanoma skin cancer, osteoporosis, facial paralysis, and osteoarthritis.
Tom has an Engineering Degree from Imperial College London and a PhD in Artificial Intelligence from the University of Wales, Aberystwyth.
Dr Ben Atkins
Director of CSR & Regulatory Compliance
As immediate past president of the Oral Health Foundation, Ben brings wealth of expertise to Manchester Imaging, in the policy and public health advisory field, as a practitioner who built up a group of dental practices in the north of England and as a former tutor at Manchester Dental Hospital.
His advisory roles include press and Parliamentary representative for the British Dental Association; former Healthcare Commission adviser on dental complaints; co-optee of the NICE Public Health Advisory Committee; member of the Periodontal Steering Group for the Department of Health; Chair of Salford Local Dental Committee; Ambassador for Wrigleys, and Performance List panel member for NHS England.
Kevin D’Silva
Chairman
Kevin D’Silva brings huge experience to the development of Manchester Imaging. A specialist in life science products and medical devices, he has an exceptional track record of working with private and publicly quoted companies in the role of CEO, Chairman or Director.
In 2006 Kevin created Salusinvest LP, a medical technology and management group formed to invest in EU and US life science businesses. Other companies that have benefited from his involvement include Hallmarq Veterinary Imaging; Michelon Diagnostics; Crystallon, world leader in cryosystems; Monica Healthcare diagnostic devices; and Imorphics, MRI and CT medical imaging services.
Kevin’s combination of scientific and business expertise and experience of working with such a wide range of medical technologies provides Manchester Imaging with a exceptional catalyst for growth.
Kevin graduated from the University of Leeds with a BSc in Chemical Engineering. He also has an MBA from Manchester Business School.
Technical Team
Brian Purvis
Software Architect
Brian is a software architect and developer with over ten years of experience of leading a technical team working on the creation and support of medical software devices and machine learning products.
In all, Brian has worked in commercial software development for over twenty years.
His expertise in the development of machine learning algorithms, computer vision, deep learning and other AI technologies plays an important part in Manchester Imaging’s on-going R&D work, as does his background in health services, gained whilst working with Optasin Medical and the Waters Corporation.
Brian graduated from the University of Newcastle with a BSc (HONS) in Computer Science. Whilst working at Manchester Imaging he has established an Agile ISO 13485 compliant development environment and created web and cloud-hosted AI-based medical devices.
Dr David Cristinacce PhD
Computer Vision Scientist
David is an expert in Computer Vision and Machine Learning and enjoys the challenge of implementing practical solutions to complex problems.
David is working directly on AssistDent; aiming to bring leading edge Computer Vision algorithms into the clinic to benefit the patient. Previously, David developed complex quantitative software for the pharmaceutical industry.
He obtained a PhD in Computer Vision and developed prize winning research at the University of Manchester. David’s academic research led to industrial collaboration with Toyota and patented methods for monitoring driver state using in-car cameras.
James Graham
Technical Consultant & Director
James was an original member of the pioneering team that created the image-recognition software underpinning our products.
James graduated from the University of Edinburgh with a first in Physics and later from the University of Cambridge with a PhD in Structural Biology.
He has published 100 + refereed journal and conference papers, edited an influential book and edited four conference proceedings. In addition he is co-inventor of two patents.
- Detection of dental caries from bitewing X-rays. USA (2014), EU (2015), Canada (2017), validated in fourteen European states.
- Assessing bone mineral density – and hence osteoporotic status using radiographs. (USA 2017.)
James has extensive teaching and academic experience, has received numerous research grants and acts as an external PhD examiner for various UK and overseas universities.
Operations & Support Team
Susan Gardner
Operations & Support Manager
Susan has many years of business experience, having worked in the Financial Corporate Sector in Sales & Marketing, as well as owning and managing her own small enterprises providing Health and Wellbeing services. In addition to excellent project management and communication skills, she brings a wealth of practical knowledge into this role with a unique perspective.
At Manchester Imaging Susan is responsible for welcoming new customers and ensuring that they have a smooth onboarding experience and continues to provide on-going support throughout their journey with MIL for mutual success.
With a strong technical background developed in the Microsoft Office Suite, wordpress, marketing and communication software, she has the unique ability to integrate her skills with creative flair.
Many years in customer facing roles, have honed an already natural ability to communicate with rapport, which has been further developed through Coaching and Mentoring.
Susan is an accredited ILM Wellbeing Coach, a Lifestyle Prescriptions Health Coach, Reiki Master Teacher and currently doing a Lifestyle Medicine and Health Coaching Masters/PhD Degree.
Regulatory Team
Eva Salgardo Sanchez
Quality and Regulatory Manager
Eva is a quality assurance and regulatory affairs professional specialising in the medical device sector.
At Manchester Imaging she is responsible for ensuring that the company complies with all applicable requirements and obtains regulatory approvals worldwide.
Eva’s skills include in-vito diagnostics, CE Mark and FDA submissions, developing quality systems and procedures.
Her Quality and Regulatory experience is extensive. She has implemented from scratch Quality Management Systems in compliance with in-vito diagnostic legislation, ISO 13485: 2006. BS/EN 14971: 2012 and other applicable directives.
Eva has a degree in physics from Valladolid University, Spain. She is also a qualified SQLServer Database Administrator and has a Degree in Music (Piano).
